Carmel Owen

Carmel (in photo, right) met June Bingham (in photo, left) at an ASCAP workshop and began partnering on ASYLUM in the late 1990s, the beginning of a long journey and developmental process with York Theatre and the Women’s Project. At the time she was writing cabaret music and acts for various performers and performing material herself in New York clubs. She wrote LADY FASHION with then partner Jay Kerr, a musical loosely based on Diana Vreeland, fashion icon. Other musicals include THE GOVERNING BOARD, about a non-profit women’s organization, and ONCE UPON A TIME…IN BROOKLYN, a one act musical about life in a 1980s Brooklyn brownstone. She is originally from Louisville, Kentucky where she performed with the Louisville Ballet Company from age 13–18. She graduated from Indiana University at Bloomington and is indebted to all of her teachers, too many to mention, as well as the many professional musicians, actors, writers, and theater directors with whom she has had the pleasure to work.
